So when Marc started writing “The Daily Ted,” I always planned on writing posts occasionally.  Of course, the procrastinator in me put it off, but I finally have a combination of inspiration and timing, so here it goes.

Today I finished my first week “back” to work.  I have the extreme privilege of being able to work from home, and I’ve dropped my hours down to part-time, so Ted does not need to go to daycare.  I know so many people wish they could do the same in their careers, and I so appreciate the fact that I have a job that allows me to be able to work this way and raise my son – but just let me share with you some of our adventures from the past 5 days.

1.  There’s less time to do “stuff”.  Right?  Duh.  But truly, when all of a sudden there is no food in the refrigerator, you realize that this is a problem.  This is easily rectified by e-mailing hubby a grocery list 🙂

2.  Crying babies and conference calls do not mix.  OK, actually in this case it worked out pretty well.  We were 45 minutes in to a 30 minute call, and Ted got a little tired of playing on his floor gym.  When I picked him up and he started babbling into the phone (maybe somewhat loudly), it was a quick and appropriate ending to the call.

3.  The time from one feeding to the next has become a standard unit of measure.  Ted is on a very regular schedule – he has trained us well.  Thankfully because of this, planning “work time” is pretty easy – this is where that “suggest an alternative time” function on meeting requests becomes key.  You want to meet at 9am?  Sorry – the only meeting I’ll be attending at 9am is with a comfy seat, a nursing pillow and my kiddo.
