Ted had his 4-month well-visit to the pediatrician today and the results are in: He’s doing great. Well, duh. As for stats, he’s just over the 30th percentile for weight, nearing the 70th percentile for length, and… uh… above the 90th percentile for head circumference. Yup, the boy has his dad’s head.

I don’t think my noggin’ looks especially large, but buying a hat that fits comfortably is usually quite the chore. The people who tag hats with a label that says “one size fits all” are quite simply: liars. Or at the very least they’ve never gazed upon my skull.

People have also said to me from time to time that I have a big head. Although I have my doubts as to whether or not they were actually referring to the size of my cranium. Phrases like “not humble” and “too conceited” were thrown around in high school, but I’m not so sure it was warranted. I usually just told people that it wasn’t my fault I was smarter than them; I was just born that way. I’m reminded of a section of “The Seven Deadly Virtues” from the musical Camelot:

“I find humility means to be hurt
It’s not the earth the meek inherit, it’s the dirt”

All kidding aside, I will be sure to teach my son to be humble in life when appropriate, but to also be proud of anything and everything that he accomplishes. Balance, of course, is the key. But for now, I’m sure his large head is just a physical thing. I mean, he can’t possibly know how awesome he is yet, right?

  1. Where’s a new photo of his large head? No slacking off Dad!

    1. I know, I know. I didn’t mean to publish until later after taking a new picture but I clicked “publish” instead of “preview” when I was editing. I’ll get a new pic up soon.

      1. Good call Sarah! You can always edit the post to add a pic. Glad to hear Ted is doing so well! Not surprised but happy to hear it.
